"...build up relationships with local dealers and develop an extensive knowledge of Asian art."

Welcome to my website!
First of all I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Jack Nelis and I live in Den Haag, The Netherlands.
I've been interested in history, archaeology and antiques since I was a child. I started to deal in antiques in 1984 while I was studying Law at Leiden University. In those days I was dealing in all kinds of European pieces from the 17th till 19th centuries, but I soon developed a passion for Asian art.
In 1992 it was clear that my future was not in the Law business and I decided to become a flight attendant.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I could now fly to Hong Kong, Beijing, Bangkok and other places in the Far East, study and buy objects, build up relationships with local dealers and develop an extensive knowledge of Asian art. I'm still working as a flight attendant and I consider myself very lucky to be able to fly to Asia so often.
Over the years I've become a specialist in this field and because of my broad interest I always have a lot of variety in my collection: Han and Tang horses, green glazed Ming tomb figures, blue and white porcelain, jewelry, snuff bottles, spectacles, scholar's objects, textiles, bronzes, wooden figures etc.
Occasionally I may also have artefacts from India, Africa, Indonesia, the Precolumbian world and colonial pieces from Goa, South America and the former Dutch colonies.
I don't have a shop, but if you would like to see my collection you are warmly invited to visit me by appointment. From the middle of May till the end of September however, I have a stall at the oldest antique market of The Netherlands, located on one of the most beautiful squares of Europe, the Lange Voorhout in Den Haag. The market runs on Thursdays and Sundays but I'm there only on Sundays.
In the vicinity of the market you will find lots of museums, monuments, art galleries and antique shops, all within walking distance from Central Station (www.denhaag.com).
Please feel free to browse my online catalogue. If you can't find what you're looking for don't hesitate to email me, I might be able to find it for you!
